In the Huta Stalowa Wola in the newly built hall, an RTG laboratory was launched

The newly created chamber for x-rays of large-size welded constructions allows radiographic X-ray measurements of products with large dimensions max. 4m x 10m x 2.5m and weight up to 15 tons.

The existing research facilities along with the leased facility allowed for the construction of a max. dimensions 2,5x2,5x2,5m and weight up to 2 tons. Also, the location of the facility, which was 2 km from the plant, was an additional logistical burden.

The construction of the newly created X-ray chamber enables X-rays to be made using radiographic lamps with a power of up to 350kV. The use of this type of solution allows to perform X-rays of construction materials, including steel materials and welded joints with cross-sections up to 100 mm. The chamber is one of the most modern facilities of this type in Poland and one of the largest in Europe. HSW SA also obtained the necessary permits of the National Atomic Energy Agency to perform operations with devices containing radioactive sources and generating ionizing radiation.

This modern research facility secures the needs of HSW with regard to the need to conduct research on towers and chassis bodies after their welding, which is one of the most important stages of the production cycle. The need to conduct material and structural tests is related to the verification of welded elements in terms of meeting the construction and quality requirements, including chassis up to 155 mm sh KRAB produced in HSW S.A. as part of technology transfer from Hanwha Land Systems (Korea). The X-ray test chamber will also be used in the implementation of further projects carried out by HSW, such as the New Amphibious Infantry Fighting Vehicle or other vehicles, among others from the WISŁA program. HSW also counts on cooperative orders.
